In order for fluoride to show its protective effect against dental caries, it needs to be applied in low doses daily and in high doses at periodic intervals. Toothpastes contain low doses of fluoride and are effective when used every day. On the other hand, the frequency and form of application of agents (gel, foam, polish, etc.) containing high doses of fluorine is personal. During the dental examination, the caries risk group of the patient is determined and the frequency of local fluoride application may change as every 3,4 or 6 months according to this group.
